A properly fitted boot is the connection between your body and the ski, making them a crucial part of the performance formula. Our ski in ski out location is prime for boot fitting. If something isn't feeling right, stop on by and we can help you out and send you back out on the slopes.

How to Prepare for Your Fitting

Getting the most out of your boot fitting starts before you even walk through the door. Here are a few tips to help us find your perfect fit as efficiently as possible:

  • Bring your ski socks — Wear or bring the socks you plan to ski in. Sock thickness makes a real difference in fit.
  • Bring your current boots — Even if they’re worn out, your old boots tell us a lot about your foot shape, pressure points, and skiing style.
  • Bring any existing footbeds or orthotics — If you use custom insoles in everyday shoes, bring those too.
  • Know your skiing style — Think about where and how you ski: groomed runs, backcountry, park, or all-mountain.
  • Allow enough time — A thorough fitting takes 45–90 minutes. Don’t rush it — your feet will thank you.
  • Come with clean, dry feet — It makes the fitting process more comfortable for everyone!

Custom Foot Beds

Every foot is different—and a great-fitting boot starts from the ground up. Our expert bootfitters craft custom footbeds tailored to the unique shape of your foot, providing the foundation for better comfort, precise control, and all-day performance on the mountain. Using advanced molding techniques and decades of hands-on experience, we ensure each footbed supports your natural arch and alignment, eliminating pressure points and giving you the confidence to ski harder, longer.

Liners

Heat-moldable liners are the key to a truly personal fit. By gently warming the liner material and having you step into the boot, the foam conforms to the exact shape of your foot and ankle—capturing every curve, bump, and contour. The result is unmatched comfort from the very first run: no break-in period, no nagging pressure points, and a seamless connection between your body and your boot that translates into more precise, confident skiing all day long. And it’s not just for skiers—snowboarders benefit just as much from a custom-molded liner, enjoying the same locked-in feel and all-day comfort whether carving groomers or riding powder.

Shell Modification

Shell modifications are one of the most effective ways to resolve stubborn pressure points and achieve a truly custom fit. Whether you have wide feet, a high instep, prominent bunions, or other unique foot anatomy, our expert technicians can carefully stretch or grind the boot shell to create targeted relief exactly where you need it. Using precision tools and years of hands-on experience, we reshape the plastic to accommodate your foot’s natural contours—without compromising the boot’s structural integrity or performance. The result is a boot that wraps your foot comfortably and securely, giving you the confidence to push your skiing to the next level.

Boot Selection

Choosing the right boot starts with finding the correct last width and flex index for your skiing style and ability level. Every foot is different, and the wrong shell shape can mean discomfort, poor performance, or both. Our expert fitters guide every customer through a thorough selection process—assessing your foot shape, arch profile, volume, and how you like to ski—so you walk away with a boot that’s built around you from the very first buckle.

Stance Alignment (Canting)

Canting adjusts the lateral tilt of your boot to bring your knee into proper alignment directly over the center of your ski. Even a small degree of misalignment can compromise edge control, rob you of power through turns, and accelerate fatigue over a long day on the mountain. Our fitters use precision tools to measure your lower-leg geometry and dial in the exact cant angle you need—so every turn feels balanced, efficient, and effortless from first chair to last run.

Our Fit Guarantee

When you purchase a boot and custom footbed from Powder Hound, we guarantee the fit — for the life of the boot. That means all boot work and customization is free, forever. Boot punches, liner cooks, shell modifications — whatever it takes to keep you comfortable on the mountain, we’ve got you covered at no charge.

And if we’ve exhausted every option and the boot still isn’t right? We’ll buy it back and find you a better one. Some people have a harder time finding the perfect fit than others — and that’s okay. Our mission is simple: to make sure you enjoy skiing and riding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?
Nope! Walk-ins are always welcome. That said, booking ahead helps us dedicate the time and attention your feet deserve — especially during busy season.

How long does a fitting take?
A thorough fitting typically takes 45–90 minutes. We don’t rush the process — getting it right the first time is what matters.

Do you fit snowboard boots too?
Yes! Our fitting expertise applies to snowboard boots as well. Whether you’re a skier or a rider, we’ll get you dialed in.

What if my boots start hurting after I buy them?
Stop by anytime — our ski-in/ski-out location makes it easy to pop in if something isn’t feeling right. If you purchased a boot and custom footbed from us, all modifications are covered under our fit guarantee at no charge.

Can you work with boots I bought somewhere else?
Absolutely. We can perform shell modifications, liner molding, footbed work, and canting adjustments on boots purchased elsewhere. Note that services such as boot punches and liner cooks are charged for boots not purchased with us.

What’s the difference between a footbed and a liner?
A footbed (or insole) supports your arch and foot from below, while a liner is the inner boot that wraps your foot and ankle. Both can be customized for a better fit — and together they make a huge difference in comfort and performance.

What Our Customers Are Saying

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Eight hours of ski lessons this winter and I just couldn’t make significant progress. I recently stopped into Powder Hound Ski Shop and they immediately noticed I’m knock-kneed. They made special wedge lifts for my boots and I took them out for a spin this weekend. It was like NIGHT and DAY! I skied all the runs I’d been pining over without a single stumble. Thank you Powder Hound Ski Shop for helping me FINALLY find out how fun skiing can be. Without your help, I likely would have quit.”

— Jessica Quinn

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Took my wife for her first set of boots. Boot fitter took his time, addressed all concerns. She has never liked skiing because her feet always hurt. After walking away with a great pair of heat molded boots, with custom insoles, she can’t stop talking about how comfortable they are. I definitely recommend spending the money to get your boots fitted right and visit Powder Hound.”

— Daniel McQuillan

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“This place is as good as it gets when it comes to customer service and technical expertise. Eric and his crew spent nearly the entire day fitting my family for boots. After a lifetime of skiing I now have a properly fitted boot for the first time ever and learned a ton about how boot fitting works in the process. The experience was way beyond expectations and I will never buy ski equipment anywhere else going forward.”
